Bob Vermeire

Bob Vermeire Robert C. "Bob" Vermeire, 65, of Geneseo, passed Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, at his home.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, at Christ Anglican Church in Moline. The Rev. Cannon Ed den Blaauwen and Father Peter Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Robert Vermeire Memorial Fund.

Bob was born on Aug. 14, 1950, in Moline, the son of Emiel and Nellie Mae Alldridge Vermeire. He graduated from Moline High School. He was united in marriage to Marlys C. Bergeson Kushmer. Bob was a lineman at Illinois Bell for 15 years. He then worked for Moline Housing Authority for 23 years as a maintenance supervisor, from which he retired.

Bob was a member of Christ Anglican Church in Moline. He was a member of the EAA, AOPA, and the Arabian Horse Association. Bob had his own plane, and they flew every weekend. He loved farming and raising straight Egyptian Arabians. He showed his horses in the Egyptian events and was always ready for a road trip to look and buy Arabian horses.

He is survived by his wife, Marlys; stepsons, Michael Kushmer, of Silvis, Matthew (Heidi) Kushmer, of Holy Springs, N.C.; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jenna) Kushmer (who was very special to Bob and was raised with his grandparents from the time he was 11), Jessica (Nick) Weenie, Austin Kushmer, Madison Kushmer; great-grandchildren, Claire, Laurel, Eli; sister, Jean Quick, Moline; brother, Tom (Pat) Vermeire, of Pass Christian, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
