Gregory 'Radar' Starr
Gregory A. "Radar" Starr, 56, of Rock Island, died Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Rafferty Funeral Home, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements and can be reached at (309) 797-1900. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Sacred Heart Church, Moline. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary recited at 4 p.m. Burial will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the education fund for his son Matt or Rock Island Conservation Club, where he was a member.
Greg was born April 14, 1950, in Rock Island, the son of Wayne and Norma Bolte Starr. He married Susan M. Parmley on Dec. 15, 1990, in Moline.
Radar was employed for 33 years at MidAmerican Energy Co., working mostly as a journeyman mainman, last working in February 2006.
Greg served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal from 1969 to 1975 with the 2nd Ordinance/Field Maintenance/4th Marines.
Radar enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sue; son, Matt, at home; stepdaughters, Lisa Wierenga, Bloomington, Ill., and Christine and Josh Wangeline, Port Byron; granddaughter, Elizabeth Wangeline; parents, Wayne and Norma Starr, Moline; sisters, Karen Wangeline, Winchester, Calif., and Connie Morris, Coal Valley; brothers, Steve Starr, Daytona Beach, Fla., Mike Starr, Rock Island and Brian Starr, Lakewood, Calif.; and mother-in-law, Jo Ann Parmley, Moline.
