Mike Parker
Michael J. Parker, 63, of Waverly, Iowa, died Monday, April 14, 2014, at his home from natural causes.
Mike was born on April 17, 1950, in Moline, IL, the son of Richard James and Edna Mae (Larsen) Parker. He attended Moline Schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1968. In 1983, Mike met Chrissy Covemaker; the two were blessed with a daughter Sara, in 1985. On March 17, 2001, Mike was united in marriage to Rhonda Johnson. The couple divorced in November of 2007.
Mike was very proud of his military service. He served in the United States Marines as a Military Combat Illustrator, until his honorable discharge. Mike was well known in the Quad Cities for his ability to entertain on the radio, and at live venues. In Waverly he was also a popular personality on KWAY Radio and throughout the community. He worked in security at East Moline Correctional Center in the early 1980's, and most recently in Waverly.
Mike was a very intelligent and artistic person. He was very gifted at drawing, painting, sculpting, but most of all, entertaining a crowd of people; the bigger the crowd, the better! He was a very proud republican, and was involved with the Republican Party in the Quad Cities, and in Waverly.
Mike's memory is honored by his daughter, Sara Parker of Moline, Illinois; granddaughter, Avery; grandson, Mason; sister, Lyn Duffey; brother, Richard C. Parker, Sr; his former wife, Rhonda; her children Elle and Taylor; and his current four legged companion, Bub. Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
A public visitation will be on Friday, April 18, 2014, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa. American Flag folding and presentation will be conducted by Northeast Iowa Detachment 1241.
