Jeff Mack
Jeffrey Lynn Mack, 62, Moline, went peacefully to his eternal rest on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, surrounded by his family in Orlando, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 9 a.m. Interment will be at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal, where military rites will be accorded by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Jeff was born Jan. 11, 1950, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Kenneth R. and Norma Craven Mack. On July 31, 1971, he married the former Barbara Fifer.
Jeff served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973. He spent 36 years as a welder and tool and die maker and retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 2011.
Jeff enjoyed his early years as a chief in the YMCA Indian Guides Program. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge 1014 AF & AM Moline. He also enjoyed spending his time camping, playing guitar and watching UCF Football and NASCAR. Jeff also liked to share his love of astronomy.
Survivors include Barbara, his wife of 41 years; his children, Justin (Erin) Mack, Orlando, Shawn (Tiffany) Mack, Moline; two grandchildren, Kiley and Avery; brothers, Dale Mack, Moline, Daniel (Anna) Mack, Muscatine, Iowa, and James (Marie) Mack, Moline; stepmother-in-law, Wendy Fifer, Bettendorf; brothers-in-law, Rick (Sharon) Fifer, John (Kay) Fifer, Chad (Heather) Fifer; and sisters-in-law, Sue (James) Bermel and Julie (Joel) Bacorn. He is further survived by a niece, nephews, cousins and their families, other relatives and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Winifred and Richard Fifer.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Stewart Garneau, Dr. Omar Kayaleh, the Oncology Department at Trinity Hospital and the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando.
