Mike Edwards
Michael L. Edwards, 62, of Moline, died in his Moline home on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, after a long illness.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 5, 1950, in Freeport, Ill., to Arlene and PG Edwards. He attended schools in Lanark and Moline. He entered the Marine Corps in 1969, and served active duty in Vietnam until being discharged in 1970, after contracting malaria. He worked for Montgomery Elevator Company, in Moline, for 25 years.
Mike enjoyed fishing and was an ardent fan of the Chicago Cubs -- his favorite professional sports team. He was known as a collector of nutcrackers and had accumulated well over 100 different models in his collection.
He is survived by a son, Michael James Edwards (address unknown); a sister, Marsha Green Roberts and her husband, Floyd, Lanark, Ill.; two nieces, Teresa Green, Dubuque, Iowa, and Penny Reynolds and her husband, Pat, Yorkville, Ill.; two great-nieces, Catlin and Erin Reynolds, and a great-nephew, Ryan Reynolds, all of Yorkville. He leaves a wonderful and caring fiancee, Mildred Kennedy, Moline.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene Schneider; maternal grandparents, Riley and Pearl Lotzbaugh; wife, Donna; and brother-in-law, Ronald Green.
