Jan Carlson Melvin
Janice D. Melvin (Jan) passed away on October 24, 2013 at University of Colorado Hospital, surrounded by family while awaiting a liver transplant.
Jan was born in Moline IL on June 29, 1950 to John & Harriet Carlson. On November 22, 1969 she married Steve Melvin in Rock Island IL at the Augustana College campus church. Together they moved to Pueblo CO in 1976 where they lovingly raised their three children Tiffany, Catrina and Scott. A job change for Steve brought them to Longmont in March of 1992.
While Jan was devoted to her family, she also proved herself to be a successful entrepreneur. She was so proud to open, manage and own Fine Lines Apparel in Niwot in 1994. Her creative urge extended beyond fashion and into many other life-long passions including home decor, cross-stitch, sewing, and cooking. She loved planning parties, making certain every belly was delightfully full. No one ever left Jan's house hungry. Not ever.
She spent many happy evenings with her close friends playing Bridge and Bunco both in Pueblo and Longmont. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and is known to her grandchildren as "mormor".
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Jeff Carlson, all of Illinois. She will live on in the hearts of her husband Steve, her children and grandchildren: in Longmont Tiffany & Todd Richards with Danica, Gavin, Tanner and Anna; in Boise ID Catrina & David Wiseman with Alexis; and in Orange CA Scott & Deborah Melvin with Emmerly, Nola and Aveline. Faith (sister) & Robert McWilliams of Glen Ellyn, IL, Sharon (sister) & Carlyle Smith of Surprise, AZ, and Vicki Melvin (sister-in-law) of Bettendorf, IA will also miss her dearly. Memorial Service will be at 11am on Monday December 2, 2013 at Lifebridge Church in Longmont CO, with reception immediately following. In memory of Jan, please consider being an organ donor (www.donatelifecolorado.org).
