Woody Benker
Ellwood “Woody” Earl Benker, Jr., 69, of Davenport, died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at home.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Duck Creek Lodge (3300 E Locust St.) in Davenport. Cremation rights have been accorded and Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Scott County.
Woody was born January 30, 1950, in Moline, the son of Ellwood Earl Benker, Sr. and Majel Rosetta (Kiesey) Benker. Woody was a Navy Vietnam Veteran. He married Sandra Lea (Burgett) Buller in Galena, December 10, 1999. She preceded him in death September 2003.
He managed Fat Boys Pizza in Davenport. He later worked in Quality Control at Solar Plastic in Davenport, retiring in 2014. After retirement, he worked part-time at Enterprise. He loved music and played bass in a band and he loved history. Woody loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his children; Lisa (Mark) Benker Raymond, Mahomet, Illinois; Sarah Benker, Moline; Evan Benker, Mayer, Arizona; grandchildren; Adam Nichols, Alexa (Ben) Winn, Meredith Lucille Benker; a great-grandchild, Griffin Winn; siblings; Helen Benker Hovonick, Marshalltown, Iowa; Cindy (Tom) Bucker, Vestal, NY; and nieces/nephews; Emily (Rob) Malcolm, Sean (Vicky) Blackmer; Brandon (Jessica) Bucker; and Andrea Bucker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Doug.
