Michael E. Bauman

Dr. Michael E. Bauman, age 69, of Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Marshall Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. He was born on February 14, 1950 in Moline, Illinois to Edward and Edith (Pulver) Bauman.

Michael graduated from Moline High School in 1968 and he served his country in the United States Marine Corp Reserves. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and later received his Masters of Divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary and his PhD from Fordham University. Michael was the Director of Christian Studies and professor of Theology and Culture at Hillsdale College. He was a Resident-Scholar for the Summit Semester program at Summit Ministries in Colorado and Associate Dean for the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at the Keble College at Oxford University in England. Michael was an avid bicyclist who won the world championship Ultra Marathon in 2000. His generosity and open-door policy will be remembered by his many colleagues, students and friends with whom he left a lasting impact.

Michael is survived by one brother, Chris (Debra) Bauman of Davenport, Iowa and his beloved dog, Bones. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Dr. Michael Bauman will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Tom Burke officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
