Craig Scherschel
Craig Scherschel, 65, of Coal Valley, died Jan. 22, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the family.
Craig was born Feb. 23, 1950, in Moline, the son of Arnold E. and Beverly Israelson Scherschel. He married Evelyn Hanson on Dec. 29, 1971, in Galesburg.
Craig graduated from Moline High School in 1968. He went on to work at Eagle Foods for 38 years as a non-foods manager and then later with Trinity Transport for 10 years, retiring in 2013. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island. Craig was very proud of having built his home in Coal Valley and enjoyed sitting in front of his fireplace. Craig was a true people person; he loved helping and he loved people.
Craig is survived by his loving wife of 45 years; brothers, Jerry (Margaret) Scherschel; brother and sister-in-law, Ken (Laurie) Hanson; nephews, Joshua Hanson, Dan Scherschel and Hunter Scherschel; and beloved cats, Phoebe and Marcell. He was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Beverly Scherschel, and grandparents, Carl and Leona Israelson.
