Daniel Close

Dan Close Daniel B. Close, 67, of Coal Valley, died Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th St., Moline, immediately followed by a procession to Rock Island National Cemetery for burial. The Moline American Legion Post No. 246 will present military honors. Cremation will take place prior to services at Trimble Crematory. Memorials may be made to the family or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Dan was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Moline, the son of Raymond and Anita (Murray) Close. He was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran, who served two years overseas during the Vietnam War. He was married to Pat Close for several years and worked maintenance for several businesses and complexes in Destin, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia.

He was active in Boy Scouts and played baseball in his younger years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and watching NASCAR and drag racing on TV. He also loved to go to yard sales and became a collector of many eclectic things such as old cans, rolling pins, Coca-Cola memorabilia and much more.

Dan is survived by four siblings, Sharon Tolle of Coal Valley, Mary Loeffler of Colona, Tommie and Shelley Close of Coal Valley, and Wayne (Tammie) Close of Rock Island; many nieces, nephews and their families; a step-son, Charles Gleason, of St. Louis; step-grandchildren, Brittany and Nick; and his dog and best friend, Gunner. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale and Allan Close, and a step-daughter, Sherry Shea.
